Association of Rivers Trusts
Autumn Seminar & Awards Dinner

“Innovative Delivery through Partnership”

Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th September 2009

London Wetland Centre, Barnes, London SW13 9WT

In association with Thames Rivers Restoration Trust, Thames 21, Action for the River Kennet and the Wandle Trust

The Association of Rivers Trusts is pleased to invite you to our 2009 Autumn Seminar and Awards Dinner in the delightful setting of the London Wetland Centre, Barnes, in South West London. All are welcome to join us.

This year we are extremely proud to bring together the work being undertaken in and around the capital by four of our Rivers Trust members; Thames Rivers Restoration Trust, Thames 21, Action for the River Kennet and the Wandle Trust. It is important to recognise the value of Rivers Trusts in urban areas; involving communities in planning, engaging volunteers and tackling socio- economic issues, as well as in mainstream environmental improvements. It is also timely to introduce new and exciting policy and project initiatives for 2010, and to review progress on River Basin Management Plans and the delivery of real improvements on the ground that will contribute to meeting Good Ecological status.

As ever, we have tried to balance presentations with time for delegates to meet and talk informally with others, both within the rivers trust movement and with our public sector agency colleagues. There is a full programme for the day, though we have started a little later than normal to aid travel on the morning into London.

ART’s Annual Awards Dinner is also being hosted at the London Wetland Centre on the evening of Monday 7th September 2009 (7.00 pm for 7.30 pm), and gives us the opportunity once again of rewarding excellence and achievement by rivers trusts and individuals. A nomination form for the Awards is attached and we welcome your participation in making this another memorable occasion.  Dress code is informal.

The cost of the day’s Seminar is subsidised at £50 per person to encourage wide participation, and includes lunch and refreshments. The Awards Dinner, at cost, is £45 per person, inclusive of wine.  Please find a booking form attached. Further details, including an on-line booking/credit card payment facility, can be found on our website. Please note that we are happy to receive e-mail bookings, but the credit card facility is only available via the website.

The proposed boat trip on the following day has been cancelled due to insufficient demand. [Refunds will be made to those who have already booked.]

Details of the London Wetland Centre are available on www.wwt.org.uk/london.

For accommodation, there are two main hotels in Hammersmith that seem the most convenient; namely the Express by Holiday Inn (£93 per night including breakfast) or the Novotel (at about £125 per night). For your information, our small team are planning to book the former.

All are welcome to join us for whole or part of the event and we look forward very much to seeing you there!
